Spyware Information

What is Spyware?

Spyware (also referred to as AdWare) is a leading cause for computers acting sluggish. SpyWare is most commonly installed with “free” programs that are downloaded from the internet. These free programs are commonly music download programs, screen savers, and even Spyware detection programs. The program may be free, but in order to make money the program’s author has bundled other Spyware programs to sell information and get paid by advertisers. These programs and components track information about the internet sites you visit, launch pop-up ads, add search toolbars, change your browser homepage and spy on your computer – which can dramatically slow computer performance. These programs run in the background, and are usually not detectable by normal system diagnostics tools that are included with your computer.

Removing Spyware

Store bought programs can remove spyware, but recent tests show that they only remove 40-70% of known spyware. Some spyware sense the presence of spyware removal tools and won't allow it to be removed. Some spyware removal programs can damage system files and break your internet connection or won't let you log into your computer.

Computer Techs professionals deal with spyware every day. In fact, well over 50% of of our service calls involve removing spyware. We use several tools and techniques to safely find and remove up to 100% of the spyware running on most computers, without loosing your important pictures, documents and data. We'll also educate you on avoiding spyware in the future.

Avoiding Spyware

Once we remove Spyware from your computer, we want to help you avoid getting Spyware again. We will install one or more Anti-Spyware programs, but more importantly we'll teach you safe computing tips that help you from getting Spyware in the first place.

We often find that Spyware is put on computers while children are using it - usually unknowingly. Children often visit the types of websites that Spyware makers target to have their programs installed computers. Along with safe computing practices in some cases you may have parental controls and monitoring software installed on your computer.

There are dozens of such programs on the market. We have have tested and recommend a program called CyberPatrol. Click here for more information, or click here to buy CyberPatrol.

If your computer has symptoms of spyware, or you have been unsuccessful at removing it by yourself - stop wasting time and schedule an appointment with a Computer Techs professional. Call (775) 624-6888.
